About the Project

The City of Bonita Springs contractor, Quality Enterprises USA, Inc., began work on a stormwater improvements project that will enhance drainage in the area. The project includes upgrading the existing stormwater pipes and constructing two stormwater retention ponds. As part of this project, the Bonita Springs Utilities Department will also relocate water and sewer lines.

Most of the work will be done during daytime hours, but there may be some nighttime/overnight work. Prior to the start of construction, crews will install construction signs and silt fence for erosion control. You may hear typical construction noise in the area. For safety, all construction equipment is required to use backup warning beepers.

Below is a listing of tentative phases of construction, subject to change based on field conditions. As construction progresses, more specific timelines will be provided.

  • Phase 1 – Dean Street will start Wednesday, April 1.
  • Phase 2 – Quinn Street will start Monday, April 13.
  • Phase 3 – McKenna Avenue
  • Phase 4 – Saunders Avenue
  • Phase 5 – Pawley Avenue
  • Phase 6 – Chapman Avenue
  • Phase 7 – Tangerine Drive
  • Phase 8 – Orange Blossom Drive
  • Phase 9 – Lime Street

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION

Right-of-way (ROW)

Before construction begins, survey crews will mark the City’s right-of-way (ROW). Look for wooden stakes with colored flags or orange spray paint. These markings can help you identify if any personal items such as lighting, irrigation, landscaping, or decorative features are located within the ROW. Please do not attempt to remove the stakes or markings. The planned improvements will require removal of personal property items in the ROW. Mailboxes may be temporarily relocated during construction and will be reinstalled during restoration of your street. Other personal items in the ROW such as trees, bushes, some monument mailboxes, and decorative items may be removed by the contractor and will not be reinstalled. The contractor will contact you if it’s determined that you have items in the ROW that have to be permanently removed.

Detours/Driveways

During construction, the contractor will inform motorists of upcoming traffic shifts and possible detours using detour signs. There may be intermittent lane closures with flagmen guiding motorists.

Use of your driveway and side streets may be interrupted for short periods of time. Residents will be notified prior to work occurring adjacent to your driveway and detours will be provided for side street closures.

Planned Water Shut Offs

Water shut offs are expected as a part of this project. Immediately following the water shut off, you will be required to boil your water until bacteriological tests have been taken and cleared. Two water samples must be successfully completed before the boil water advisory can be lifted. You will receive a written notice of planned water shut offs via flyer, and another flyer once the boil water notice has been rescinded and the water is safe to drink. You may want to keep bottled water on hand in case of an emergency water line break. Every effort will be made to keep this time to a minimum.

Access for Services

The project team is coordinating with emergency services and Bonita Springs Utilities, LeeTran, Lee County School Transportation and the Post Office. During construction, the City’s contractor (Quality Enterprises USA, Inc.) will maintain access for public services such as mail delivery, garbage/recycle and bus services. Sheriff/Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will be notified of road closures and water shut offs. If there is someone in your home or at your business who requires special needs transportation services, please contact the City’s public information consultant, CMA Outreach, Inc. at (239) 337-1071, or email [email protected].
