Bioreactor Phase 2 Update
Council has approved staff’s recommendation under the City’s Construction Manager at Risk continuing services RFQ which will allow Wright Construction to develop a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Phase 2 of the Felt’s Avenue Bioreactor Project. The second phase of this project will bring a consistent flow of water to the site from the Imperial River at a variable rate up to 500 GPM (720,00 GPD) along Shriver Avenue to the site and also provide filtration of the water before transferring it to the existing woodchip bioreactors.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) announced funding availability on October 25, 2019, for Approaches to Reduce Nutrient Loadings for Harmful Algal Blooms Management and on November 6, 2019, the FDEP announced an Innovative Technology Grant Solicitation for Harmful Algal Blooms.

Council has decided to renew its interlocal agreement with Lee county which is set to expire November 9,2020. The agreement, which focuses on beach nourishment, is an ongoing program to combat sand erosion through periodic sand replenishment from a donating source. If not, routinely maintained erosion could spread quickly creating a direct negative impact on our beaches and beach front communities.

Council has decided to extend its outdoor dining resolution for an additional 45 days, to help businesses during the COVID 19 pandemic. Resolution 20-27, which is set to expire June 20th, 2020, allowed restaurants and food establishments to provide outdoor seating without the need for a City permit provided the establishment registers with the City and complies with the proposed order’s requirements.
