District 6Fred Forbes, AIA was born in Ohio and spent most of his working career in central Ohio. He is both an Ohio and Florida Registered Architect and an Ohio Registered professional Engineer. He has a BS degree from the University of Cincinnati and a Master's degree from the University of Dayton with all work completed except a thesis. He was a Vice President of a Chamber of Commerce for two years and then served as President for two years. While active with the chamber he successfully wrote a grant application for the City resulting in several decades of city funded Economic Development, hired the first three Economic Development Directors and created a spin off of a Downtown Merchants Association.

He was the President and CEO of his own Architectural and Engineering firm, and prior to that worked as an Aerospace Engineer at various levels including Branch Chief for the US Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. While working for the Air Force, Fred received the Exceptional Civilian Service Award which is the highest award a civilian can receive from the Department of the Air Force approved by the Secretary of the USAF. He was also recognized by the Ohio Professional Engineers Society as Ohio's Young Engineer of the Year, and as a Top Young Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers.

He served as an Under Cabinet Officer during the Administration of Governor George Voinovich, where his responsibilities included administering a billion dollars worth of State funded construction and a billion dollars' worth of State building leases every two years.  Fred and his wife Carolyn purchased a home in Bonita Springs in 1997 and became full time residents in 2009.

Fred was elected to the Bonita Springs Fire Commission in 2012 and served as a Fire Commissioner until March of 2016. Concurrently, he served on the City's Local Planning Agency.  He was a member of the Library Task Force where the mission was to get a new library for our City.  He also served as one of seven members of the Citizens Water Strategy Task Force from December, 2013 thru December, 2014.
