Stantec’s Action Sports division has been working with staff as well as the public on the design and construction of this project. Two public workshops were held for public input on the design of the Skate Park and Pump track. The first public workshop was held on August 14, 2019 and the second workshop was held on September 25, 2019.

The FDEP has announced their grant application cycle for the FY 2019-2020 Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) program. LWCF is a competitive grant program that provides financial assistance to local governmental entities for the development or acquisition of land for public outdoor recreational purposes. Applications are due no later than January 31, 2020.
The maximum funding request is capped at $400,000. The LWCF requires a 1:1 match. If funded, the City would have three (3) years from the start of the state’s fiscal year in which funds are appropriated to complete the project.

City council has approved submitting the skatepark project for the funding request. An Opinion of Probable Cost of the current design indicates the skatepark improvements will be approximately $550,000. If the City is selected for funding, the City’s contribution would be approximately $275,000. Funding for this project is currently included in the budget of $125,400. It is being requested to transfer an additional $149,600 from Park Impact fee funds to provide the 1:1 funding match for the LWCF grant.
